Hoses are an easily recognizable material that attach with a half connection. The additional end is clamped onto the hose, and the threaded end is fastened onto a faucet. In the case of pipes, a half-couple is screwed into the pipe at one end while being fully assembled at the other end for tight insertion or welding.
Half-couplings tend to come in both male and female forms. The pipe fits over the outside threads on the male half-couplings. The interior of female half-couplings has threads. To maintain the connection, piping is perversely placed.
