304 Stainless Steel Circle Rings The most common austenitic stainless steel used for making rings is 304, which is noted for its high durability, adaptability, and outstanding corrosion resistance. It is one of the stainless steel grades that is most frequently utilised in a variety of industries and applications.
The following components are frequently found in stainless steel 304:
Chromium (Cr): Providing corrosion resistance, chromium is the main alloying element in stainless steel. About 18% to 20% of stainless steel 304 is made up of chromium, which contributes to the material’s outstanding resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
Another crucial alloying component in stainless steel is nickel (Ni), which increases the material’s strength and ductility while also providing further corrosion resistance. Typically, stainless steel 304 has between 8% and 10.5% nickel.
Carbon (C): The maximum carbon content of stainless steel 304 is normally 0.08%. The low carbon concentration contributes to the material’s increased weldability and reduces carbide precipitation, which can result in sensitization and subsequent corrosion problems.
Stainless steel is given a manganese (Mn) addition to increase its workability and mechanical characteristics. Manganese content in stainless steel 304 typically ranges from 2% to 2.5%.
Stainless steel is given a silicon (Si) addition to increase its resistance to scale at high temperatures. Silicon content in stainless steel 304 normally ranges from 0.75 to 1 percent.
Other Elements: Small amounts of additional elements including nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and sulphur (S) may also be present in stainless steel 304.
